Drawn to the tactile nature of clay, Hendrien is a potter who moved into clay 3D printing in 2019. Working from her studio in Pretoria, she is the first contemporary clay 3D printing artist in South Africa. The creative activity of interlacing technology and art continually triggers her imagination as she experiments with 3D printing in clay.

Her first book; “Let’s Clay 3D Print! A Guidebook” features 23 industry experts and clay artists from around the world. The book is a perfect roadmap for anyone who wants to explore this exciting industry and way of making.

She was honoured to receive the prestigious Southern Africa National Corobrik Award in 2022 – which celebrates studio artists who showcase the evolution of ceramics. Hendrien also enjoys giving talks and workshops on this exciting topic.

“My printer has become an extension of me. The ingenuity of our collaborations and disagreements continually activates elation in me. It is an amalgamation of earth, machine and potter fused together creating a coiled body that is perfect in its imperfections.” – Hendrien Horn.
